Eyelid Surgery in New Windsor, NY
The expression “the eyes are the window to the soul” exists for a reason. Your eyes are one of the most expressive parts of your face. When someone meets you, your eyes are one of the first things they notice and are the focal point during conversation. That first impression will impact every subsequent interaction you have with that person.
You want that first impression to convey an image of youth, fitness, and vitality. However, if your eyelids are puffy, drooping, or baggy, that can communicate that your aged, tired, and have low energy. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can restore a youthful, rejuvenated appearance to your face and aid you in personal, social, professional, and romantic interactions.
At Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery and Laser Skin Care Center, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Fugo is dedicated to helping people like you achieve the natural, youthful appearance you’ve always desired. Dr. Fugo has patients from New Windsor, Newburgh, Cornwall, New York and all around the Tri-State area. Call 845.565.7040 today to schedule a consultation.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Men and women of all ages who want a more youthful and vivacious appearance for their face may be good eyelid surgery candidates. You should have good overall health and realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. Additionally, the best eyelid surgery candidates deal with one or more of these issues:
- Dark bags under the eyes
- Upper eyelids drooping
- Lost upper eyelid crease
- Sagging or wrinkling of eyelid skin
- Puffy fat deposits in the eyelids
- Excess eyelid skin that impairs your field of vision
Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can help you attain a natural, youthful appearance for your face. You may experience benefits from the procedure, including:
- Reduction or complete elimination of dark circles under the eyes
- Removal of folds in the eyelids
- Removal of bags under the eyes
- Removal of excess skin that leads to droopy eyelids and wrinkles
How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
There are two different kinds of eyelid surgery, and both procedures vary slightly depending on your goals and needs. These are outpatient procedures performed under local anesthesia and sedation. Total procedure time lasts anywhere from 30-90 minutes. The two types of eyelid surgery are:
- Upper eyelid surgery
- Lower eyelid surgery
In upper eyelid surgery, which can be performed under local anesthesia and with light sedation at an outpatient surgery center, Dr. Fugo will make an incision in the crease along the natural lid fold about one-third of an inch above your eyelashes. Then, he will remove excess tissue and fat if necessary. Your scar will be hidden as best as possible within the crease of your eyelid.
During lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Fugo will make the incision immediately beneath your eyelashes. Then, he’ll either remove your excess fat or reposition it to fill out hollows underneath your eyes. Excess skin is then removed, tightening the lower eyelid to provide a smoother, more youthful eyelid appearance.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
You’ll need someone to take you home after surgery. You will experience mild to moderate swelling in the days after your procedure. You should not experience bruising. You may also temporarily experience dry eyes, which can be treated post-operatively with eye drops.
Predominant swelling should subside within 5-7 days. Although the average patient chooses to return to work after about 5-7 days, depending upon your career demands you may return to work as early as 24 hours post-procedure if you choose. You can resume unrestricted activities and exercise after 14 days. You’ll be “photo-ready” by 6 to 8 weeks post-procedure.
