A woman’s breasts will not retain their shape and position forever. When aging and other factors begin to get the best of your breasts, a breast lift can help rejuvenate them for a more youthful shape and position.
Is A Breast Lift Right For You?
There are several factors that can cause your breasts to change over time. A loss of skin elasticity can lead to the loss of shape or firmness as the breasts begin to droop or sag. This can be due to:
- Pregnancy and/or breastfeeding
- Significant weight loss
- Aging and gravity
- Hereditary
A breast lift removes excess skin and tightens the surrounding breast tissue to achieve a youthful appearance of the breasts. Women also have the option to supplement their breast lift surgery with breast implants to restore volume to breasts that also appear flat or deflated.
Enlarged areolas or downward pointing nipples can also be improved with breast lift surgery by elevating the breasts to a youthful profile.
While a breast lift in the Hudson Valley and New York area will not affect your ability to become pregnant in the future, it is recommended to wait for surgery until you are finished having children. This will avoid any changes to the results of your breast lift.
Your Breast Lift Procedure With Dr. Fugo
For your surgery, New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Fugo will place you under general anesthesia. To begin your procedure, Dr. Fugo will make an incision based on your situation and what was discussed during your consultation. These possible incisions are:
- Around the areola
- Around the areola and downward from the center
From the incision, the underlying tissue can be lifted and tightened to improve your breast contours. The nipple and areola can also be repositioned at this point if needed. Any excess skin is then removed and incisions are closed.
What should I expect from a Breast Lift?
Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Fugo will apply any necessary bandages or surgical dressings to your incisions. A special elastic bandage or support bra should be worn throughout the recovery process to ensure proper healing and to minimize swelling of the breasts. Scarring will continue to fade over time and can be easily concealed beneath a bikini or lingerie. In order to best maintain the results of your breast lift, it is important to stick to a healthy lifestyle.
Does insurance cover breast lifts?
Breast lift procedures aren’t covered by medical insurance unless they are for a reconstructive surgery after cancer treatment. If you are not sure whether your breast lift is covered for your situation, check with your insurance company. In general, an insurance company will not cover a breast lift unless it is medically necessary.
How much does a breast lift cost?
The cost of your breast lift depends on a number of factors, including:
- The type of breast lift performed
- Whether or not you include breast implants
- The type of implant used
- Medication or tests
No matter what your treatment plan looks like, Dr. Fugo has several financing options available to help cover the costs. We accept CareCredit financing, which divides the cost of your procedure into low monthly payments, as well as Alphaeon Credit, a credit card you can use to pay for any medical-related expenses. Please call us if you have any questions about financing your breast lift procedure.
Are breast lifts safe?
Breast lifts are safe as long as they are performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Fugo is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with more than a decade of experience and meticulously plans every procedure to ensure a safe, rewarding outcome.
Are breast lifts painful?
Most patients will experience mild discomfort following a breast lift procedure. Generally, patients are able to return to work in 3-4 days. Pain subsides within a week and patients return to their normal lives without restrictions at 6 weeks. Dr. Fugo will prescribe you medication to help alleviate any discomfort you feel while recovering.
How to prepare for breast lift surgery
Before you undergo a breast lift, make sure to do the following:
- Take the week after your procedure off from work so you can recover
- Avoid scheduling any major obligations for the first 3-4 days of recovery
- Do any chores you have ahead of time (grocery shopping, cleaning, etc.)
- Prep some nutritious snacks or meals so you don’t need to cook
- Ask a friend or family member to drive you home from your surgery and monitor you for at least 24 hours
- If applicable, have someone help take care of your children
- Setup a recovery area in your home that has everything you need while you rest
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day of your surgery
- If you smoke, you will need to stop all nicotine products for minimum 6 weeks before the procedure
- Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory drugs before your surgery
Following your procedure, you should rest as much as possible and avoid any physical stress on your upper torso with lifting or running. This will help reduce the risk of complications and allow you to resume all of your normal activities in just a few weeks.
Are there risks to a breast lift procedure?
Like any other surgery, a breast lift poses some risks, including scarring, changes in nipple sensation, or difficulty breastfeeding. Dr. Fugo will give you detailed pre- and post-operative instructions to help mitigate the risk of any complications.

Patient Testimonial
“I recently underwent a procedure with Dr. Fugo. Upon meeting him it was apparent he is a warm individual and as a medical professional has excellent ‘bedside manner’. During my initial visit he described the procedure in detail and answered all of the questions that I had. Upon going through the procedure I found him to be technically very competent and professional. Following the procedure I emailed him several times and he was extremely prompt with getting back to me, which I really appreciated. I am very happy with the results and would highly recommend him to anyone needing a plastic surgery procedure.”
