Injectable Fillers
Losing weight is an achievement to be celebrated. Excited by their slimmer figure, many men and women are surprised that, along with their shrinking waist line, their weight loss dramatically and rapidly ages their facial appearance. While age is a common culprit for facial volume loss, weight loss too has a dramatic impact on facial volume.
We often fail to realize the aging effects that volume loss has on the face. Dr. Fugo understands that this can be extremely discouraging. The good news? There’s a solution. Dr. Fugo explains that “you’d likely be extremely pleased with the results of adding some of that lost volume back to your face in selective areas utilizing injectable fillers.”
The Unfortunate Effects of Weight Loss
Supported by underlying fat pads, the youthful face appears full and taut. However, as the face loses this natural fullness throughout one’s weight loss journey, so do we lose this youthful appearance. Along with sagging skin, weight loss can result in:
- A lax jawline with the formation of “jowls”
- Lines around the mouth, known as “marionette lines”
- Pronounced “tear troughs” as the under eye becomes increasingly hollow
Ultimately, as we revel in reaching our weight loss goals, we must also face the reality that we can be left with a somewhat gaunt facial appearance.
Similarly, while there are few advantages to carrying those few extra pounds, one advantage is that the added fat can help fill out lines and wrinkles that form with age. Just as the face has lost its youthful fullness, new lines, wrinkles, and facial creases are apt to appear.
Finally! A Solution
Thankfully, with the help of dermal fillers, Dr. Fugo can help you regain your youthful contours by restoring a natural appearing facial volume. Non-invasive, dermal fillers can help to plump, lift, tighten, and tone.
Long-Lasting Dermal Fillers
In hopes of emphasizing natural results, Dr. Fugo favors long-lasting fillers—like Sculptra and Radiesse—to combat deep facial volume loss. Working overtime, these dermal fillers allow for a gradual improvement as they stimulate your body’s own production of collagen. Dr. Fugo explains, “My ‘go-to’ filler for the mid-face region is Radiesse. It has great longevity (12 to 14 months) and provides the most ‘bang-for-the buck’.” He continues, “Simply put, you get much more volumizing for your money than other dermal fillers.” Likewise, Sculptra is another great option. Although you may “spend more up front and typically need two to three sessions,” with Sculptra, you can achieve “results that lasts two to three years.”
Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers
Dr. Fugo explains that he “rarely uses Restylane or Juvederm for deep facial volume” as these options fail to “provide the results or longevity that my patients have come to expect for mid-face volume. In my experience, hyaluronic acids definitely have their place in facial rejuvenation, but for significant volume replacement, dollar for dollar, they cannot out-perform Sculptra or Radiesse.”
While not the solution to combat the depletion of mid-face volume loss, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers work wonders to add volume elsewhere, such as around the mouth. Perhaps “the best part of filler treatments” such as these, “the result is instantaneous!”
What Is the Best Filler for You?
With a number of options available, it can be hard to know which dermal filler is best to meet your needs. During your consultation, Dr. Fugo takes the time to “discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals.” He recommends that you “bring pictures of yourself when you were in your late 20’s or 30’s for reference.” Explaining, “I find that this helps distinguish what features are related to aging and which features have always been with you.” Dr. Fugo elaborates, “in knowing this,” he is able to direct your treatment “toward creating a result that is much more natural and appears like a more youthful, well rested ‘you’.
With Dr. Fugo’s help, you can fully appreciate your weight loss efforts!
